The request for a female teacher is one of the most common we receive, and families sometimes ask it apologetically, as though it were a difficult demand. It is not — it is a well-founded preference with clear practical benefits, particularly for girls approaching adolescence.

Comfort translates directly into progress

Girls from around nine or ten are often more willing to make mistakes aloud, ask about menstruation and prayer, or raise something they are embarrassed about with a female teacher. Since recitation improves only through exposing errors, comfort is not a side issue — it is a direct input into learning speed.

Role modelling

A girl who studies with a hafizah who holds an ijazah, teaches professionally and manages her own family absorbs something no lecture conveys: that scholarship and Quranic mastery belong to her too. Local availability of qualified female teachers is limited in most Western cities, and it is the main reason families turn to online classes. Online, the constraint disappears entirely: a family in regional Australia, small-town Canada or the American Midwest can study with a hafizah holding formal certification, at a time that suits the school run. Ask specifically for her qualifications and request a trial before committing.
